The importance of good hydration (and its relationship with the spine and metabolism)



As we said in the previous post, when consuming water, what we are entering the body the most is Oxygen (89% of the molecular weight of water is Oxygen).


Oxygen is essential to generate combustion, without its presence it is impossible to keep a flame lit (for example, that of a candle, lighter, etc.).


ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND THE ATP MOLECULE


ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the fundamental molecule from which cells obtain their energy.


Nobel laureate Dr. Peter George noted that ATP can generate energy in two different situations:


1) One of them is in the ABSENCE OF WATER, in which 600 Joules of energy are generated for each ATP molecule.


2) The other way is COMBINED WITH WATER, generating a total of 6240 Joules of energy per ATP molecule (10 times more! – for this it is important to be well hydrated -).


HYDRATION AND STABILITY OF THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN


On the other hand, good hydration gives the spine more stability (back pain is less likely).


Between each vertebra we have a "little mattress", the intervertebral disc, which, being well hydrated, generates greater stability, and thus is less likely to generate contractures.


An analogy is the wheel of a car: if its tire is deflated it has less stability, and in this way the axis that supports it has to withstand more forces.


In the next post we will talk about another interesting way to make it easier for the intervertebral discs to be more hydrated.


WHAT IS THE NEEDED DAILY AMOUNT OF WATER?


The formula to know how many glasses of water we need to drink per day is our weight in kilograms divided by 7.


So a person who weighs 70 kg, if we divide that weight by 7, would give us a total of 10 glasses of water per day (2.5 liters per day).
